Welck, Mr Matt

  • Position: Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon

  • Specialty: Foot and ankle surgery

Profile:

Mr Welck underwent three foot and ankle fellowships (Windsor, RNOH and Baltimore, USA) prior to taking up position as a consultant orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon at the RNOH. He works as part of the Stanmore Foot and Ankle Specialists group at RNOH Private Care.

The RNOH is a national centre of excellence dealing with complex cases that have been referred from centres all over the United Kingdom.  He works closely with radiologists, physiotherapists, specialist nurses, orthotics and anaesthetists to provide optimum care to patients.

He is also an active researcher in the field of foot and ankle and is an honorary associate clinical professor at UCL.

Specialist interests:

Mr Welck treats the entire spectrum of foot and ankle elective and trauma.

His specialist interest are in; Sports Injuries of the Foot and Ankle, Achilles disorders, Neurological Foot problems, Flat foot, High Arched Foot (pes cavus), plantar fasciitis, Bunions, Arthroscopy, Ankle Arthritis

Research Interests:

Mr Welck has a keen interest in research and has been awarded an honorary associate Clinical professor role at UCL. He achieved a distinction in both an undergraduate BSc and a postgraduate MSc. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and international and national podium presentations of his work.

His research interests include the use of novel weight bearing CT scanning to help treat conditions of the foot and ankle. He has setup one of the largest databases in the UK.

Achievemenys/Awards/Publications:

Mr Welck has been awarded ten awards and prizes, including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Association Travelling fellowship award and Podium Presentation Prize and The David Marsh MSc Trauma and Orthopaedics Research Prize. In 2020 Mr Welck was awarded the ‘Best Published Paper’ award by EFAS for work done on the ankle syndesmosis.
