To protect you, your family and the staff of RNOH Private Care, we now have the facilities to offer video consultations. Your consultant will tell you if your appointment is to be carried out in this way and their practice secretary will provide you with all of the information you need to do this.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), however mild, do not leave your home for 7 days from when your symptoms started. The symptoms are:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature

You do not need to call NHS 111 to go into self-isolation. If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days, contact NHS 111 online.   • wash your hands with soap and water often – alcohol gel is effective against respiratory viruses
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell


  • touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Gerrand, Mr Craig

  • Position: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
  • Qualifications: MB ChB, FRCSEd, MD, MBA
  • Specialty: Benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours, including bone and soft tissue sarcoma and metastatic bone disease.
Specialist clinical interests: 
Benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours, including bone and soft tissue sarcoma and metastatic bone disease
Research interests: 

The diagnosis and surgical management of bone and soft tissue sarcoma and metastatic bone disease, clinical trials in sarcoma, rehabilitation, survivorship, and surgical outcomes.  He has written theses on soft tissue sarcoma and innovation in the NHS.

Professional profile: 

Mr Gerrand qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1989. He completed his higher surgical training in Glasgow and undertook fellowships in Orthopaedic Oncology and Lower Limb Reconstruction at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2001 and in 2018 joined the Sarcoma team at RNOH.
